Fashion Design Schools

Why work for a living when you can do what you really love? Explore an exciting career in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Buying, Fashion Editing, and more.

Many people are drawn to the fashion industry for a love of style, design, and glamour. However, not all fashion is haute couture and Hollywood red carpets. Only the elite few reach the status of Armani or Karan. The apparel industry makes most of its money through large-volume sales of lower and medium-priced garments and accessories, and the U.S. fashion market is seeing a boom in sales, as more than $250 billion is spent on fashion each year in the U.S.

Designing for the masses still requires an eye for style, design, and comfort. An increased interest in fashion for both men and women is good news for anyone involved in the fashion business. Market statistics point to a “dressing up” trend in America – we’re spending more money on elegant and chic clothes and accessories, such as dresses and hosiery for women and slacks for men.

There are already more than 4 million Americans working in the fashion industry. On the fashion design side, you can work as a design development coordinator, an apparel or accessories designer, or even a computer-aided design (CAD) system manager. The business side of fashion includes merchandise buyer, fashion director, fashion marketing director, and corporate merchandise planner. Fashion journalism offers opportunities for fashion photographers, fashion writers, and fashion editors.

There are many ways to get involved in fashion! Don't let the right training stand in the way of sharing your creativity with the Fashion Design community. On the Job Fashion Design Training

Most amateur fashion designers receive one to three years of on the job training before they are promoted to a higher position. During this period, you must show that your design skills are improving and that you are able to deal with customers and problem solve when necessary.

Careers for Experienced Fashion Designers

There are many options for an experienced fashion designer. You may seek a managerial position at a large company, or you may decide become the chief designer of your own clothing line. You may wish to share your skills and knowledge with other like-minded people and teach design courses in universities. Or you may wish to work as a freelance designer and work with clients on a select project by project basis.

Whatever you decide, a career in fashion design begins with finding the right fashion design school.
