| The founder of Harrington College of Design, Frances Harrington was an interior designer and a New York native. She traveled to Chicago in 1931 to present a collection of lectures for interior design professionals. Interest in her lectures lead to her to a new idea - expanding her talents to the public by creating a school. And with that, Harrington Institute of Interior Design came into being. The school advanced and Ms. Harrington presented a diploma program for her day division students. In 1959, she retired, passing leadership of the school to former student, Robert Marks, who thanked her by expanding her Institute greatly.
Currently, Harrington Institute of Design offers an impressive list of educational courses. Since those courses cover more than just the craft of Interior Design, the school was soon renamed Harrington College of Design.
