Does An Ultrasonographer Do?
Ultrasonographers use sound waves to
create an image for the assessment and diagnosis of
medical conditions. When you go to school to learn how
to perform an ultrasound, you won’t just apply
it to obstetrics and viewing a fetus in the womb. You
will learn how to use a transducer to direct non-ionizing,
high frequency sound waves into different areas of the
patient’s body. This will form images that can
be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation.

Work Environment: Ultrasound Technician
Ultrasound school graduates report an average work week of about 40 hours. Many hospitals and medical offices have evening and weekend shifts available as well. Some ultrasound techs are employed by one hospital while others are contractors and travel from hospital to hospital.
